And the winners are ...
Hi everyone!
First, a hearty thanks for your patience! We're truly sorry that we took just a little longer to announce the winners - the number of excellent, considerate submissions made the judging process both inspiring and very challenging. The creativity, energy, and purpose behind every project kept our team reminded why we're all here: applying technology towards impactful ends.
After meticulous screening and laborious deliberation, we are happy to finally announce the winners of the AI for Climate Education 2025 Tech for Social Good Hackathon!
🥇 1st Place - Climate Consequence Atlas: “See it. Hear it. Learn.”
By: Marja, young climate activist from Finland 🇫🇮
In a world where climate change often feels distant or abstract, one project stood out for turning science into stories and data into understanding.
Climate Consequence Atlas uses AI to build a global, interactive map of real climate events - floods, wildfires, droughts, and heatwaves - each brought to life through short, contextualized videos. Every story comes with accessible lessons and localized action steps, helping youth connect global science with local reality.
The judges were deeply impressed by the project’s blend of technological innovation, educational clarity, and human impact. Leveraging AI for transcription, translation, summarization, and content safety, the Atlas makes climate learning inclusive, multilingual, and globally accessible.
“It shows that the climate crisis isn’t far away - it’s happening here and now. Education is our most powerful tool to respond.”
Congratulations, Marja, for leading with creativity, compassion, and courage.
🥈 2nd Place - Policy Lab: “Play Policymaker”
By: Team PolicyLab
An interactive role-playing simulator that lets students become policymakers. Learners draft their own climate policies - from carbon taxes to renewable subsidies, while an AI models the social, economic, and environmental consequences in real time.
Using scenario generation, system dynamics, and explainable narratives, Policy Lab helps learners see how decisions ripple through societies. It sparks debate, builds empathy, and transforms complex trade-offs into tangible learning.
Educational Impact: Builds systems thinking, civic literacy, and empathy for diverse perspectives - turning abstract policy challenges into real-world lessons.
🥉 3rd Place - StorySeed: AI-crafted Local Climate Comic Generator
By: Team AI Masters
StorySeed turns local climate facts and personal anecdotes into vibrant, culturally-sensitive comic strips for youth. By combining AI narrative generation with ethical image synthesis, it transforms prompts like “our town’s river drought” or “a family replanting mangroves” into illustrated four-panel stories with classroom discussion questions.
Educational Impact: Fuses storytelling and visual learning to build emotional engagement, cultural ownership, and retention - even in low-bandwidth or offline learning environments.
🌱 a note from the organisersAll project authors have asked us not to share full prototypes publicly just yet, as they continue developing their ideas and exploring next steps. But don’t worry - you can still enjoy a few inspiring screenshots from their demos on the website, offering a glimpse into their creativity, purpose, and impact.
Thank you again to everyone who participated, judged, or simply followed along. This hackathon proved that when innovation meets empathy, tech can truly drive social good.
